With the 2021/2022 ending in June, Ugandans welcome a new financial year. Unlike the former where covid 19 shut down economies with lockdowns, the latter is expected to recover what had been lost with a fully opened economy. In order to achieve the National Development Plan, government through ministry of Finance approved 48 trillion shilling. The budget is to be financed by tax collection by Uganda Revenue Authority and Government borrowing. The Minister Matia Kasaija also stressed that no new taxes will be introduced but improvements in Revenue collection. An increase in tax payers and tax base has been achieved…
While Ugandans are frustrated with the thought of inflation and projected famine, it’s ambiguous to say that Parliament approved and released estimated 2.4b to procure brand new Mercedes-Benz worth $500,000 for Speaker Rt. Hon. Anita Among and her deputy Thomas Tayebwa. Much as it is provided for in the Constitution, Ugandans do not only contend the price but also the timing, with the increasing recession. Was it humane, fair to procure now and not later while the economy suffers? Ordinary Ugandans are baffled, disappointed and frustrated by inhumane nature of the Parliament they voted. Others wonder where the government official…

Ordinary Citizens Disappointed with President Museveni’s Response to Increasing Commodity Prices It’s been a tough half year for Ugandans with weekly price increase on commodities such as washing soap, cooking oil, salt, baking flour and others. Not like the prices were any favourable, with more than thirty years of leadership, one would expect increase in social welfare, reduction in poverty levels and minimum wage to improve livelihood. What the country is witnessing is a progressive price increase on commodities for three decades. However yesterday the 22nd of May, the President in his address linked economic crisis to the Ukraine -Russia…
