We congratulate Democratic Republic of Congo joining the EAC making a total of seven countries. The Regional Economic Community has sited several success Uniting the region economically and socially evidenced in the EAC passport that eased travel between states as well as Migration integration with Uganda as the largest refugees host.
Though the aspect of a common currency to promote trade hasn’t been achieve, Language barrier on the other hand could be no more in the near future as Uganda who is the least swahili speaking country joins the cause to learn by adopting and absorbing the language in primary and secondary curriculum as announced by Min. Of Education.
As we head for EALA 2022 elections in few weeks, East African citizens expect several key issues to be addressed especially Free Trade Area just like ECOWAS. Free Trade Area could be the long term solutions to problems of cross boarder trade like high taxation and delayed transportation due to high bureaucracy in all East African States.
Well, as for the insecurity in DRC, which has led to migrants flooding Uganda,there has been joint security forces fighting the ADF rebels by Ugand Peoples Defence Force and DRC’s army. We are yet to receive a common voice from the Community on peace and security.
