Mandazi is a Swahili bun in form of bread. It is one of the principal dishes in the cuisine of the Swahili people however this delicious snack has in the past years become popular for breakfast and dessert in most if not all East African countries. In Uganda the Mandazi has evolved into unique business especially in the informal sector and it costs an average of about five hundred Ugandan shillings. The delicious bread like cuisine is made from several ingredients like baking flour, sugar, eggs, butter, milk, yeast and water. One can also choose ingredients of preference depending on the taste desired.
Well, as a student looking for cheap snacks around Campus, it’s wise to try out Madashi and perhaps prepare them by yourself. It’s easy, here are the recipes.
RECIPES
Two cups of flour
One and half teaspoons of baking powder
One teaspoon of butter
One egg beaten
Quarter cup of water
Four teaspoon of sugar
Half teaspoon of all spices
Vegetable cooking oil
PROCEDURE
Mix flour with baking powder,
Cut butter and add sugar beat together with egg, milk and water then add the dry ingredients.
Knead dough to soft, roll out and cut in shapes desired.
Deep fry the dough in vegetable cooking oil until its golden brown.
Serve and enjoy.
