Makerere University one of the oldest Universities and the Beacon of Education and three of its officials including VC Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, acting Secretary Mr Kiranda and a senior Police officer known as Tenywa Ivan are on the limelight once again after being sued over the long pending allegation of ordering for the demolition of property of its nearby surburb of Katanga contrary to the High Court Order.
Presented before the High Court in Kampala on July 7, by one of the pastors through his lawyer, the complainant accused the duo for directing Tenywa, a police officer to evict the him by mercilessly pulling down his perimeter fence, garage and surrounding structures in contrary to the earlier of a court injunction issued on March 7. Seven years ago, Court ruled that the Katanga Valley land was occupied by four family members that were the lawful owners. These include Mr Masembe Yosamu, Mr George Kalimu, Ms Gamalie Nambogga and Blasio Buyisi.
A couple of months ago the same court put to a standstill an active demolition activity initiated by Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) on the same Katanga. The country has been grappling with series of unplanned demolitions of structures due to land wrangles or related vices among these included the Ndeeba church were Christians wokeup one morning to their shock to find an ancestry church demolished to rubbles. The latest also being slashing of rice plantation in Otuke with orders of a politician amidst the current nationwide hunger and price increases.
