Following his controversial re-election last month, Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa is accused of nepotism after appointing sons Ministers. Mnangagwa on Monday named his son David Kudakwashe as deputy Finance Minister while ex- banker Mthuli Ncube was retained as the Finance Minister. Also nephew Tongai Mnangagwa appointed as the deputy Tourism Minister.
Law maker Fadzayi Mahere of the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) termed the new Ministerial line-up as “indefensible ” accusing Mnangagwa of nepotism. There has been no official reaction from the ruling party or the Presidency over the accusation, however several supporters claim both sons are qualified for the positions.
As most Elections, Mr. Mnangagwa re-election has been disputed by the opposition citing claims of fraud, though its too late to rant over it.
Nepotism in political or government offices isn’t new as a form of corruption that most African States must fight. Social Media reactions over the issue isn’t enough rather stringent laws must be put in place to curb the vice.
