Thousands of relatives and friends of the fallen state minister for Labour, employment and industrial relations the late Hon. (Rtd) Charles Okello Engola thronged Kololo independence ground to witness and pay their last tribute yesterday.
The head of state President Museveni during expressed his utmost disappointment with the national army UPDF saying the minister’s killing is an embarrassment to the army.
Retaliating to the high claim that the killer alarmed of no pay, Museveni further stated that Uganda can not afford extravagant salaries for himself and the soldiers.
Museveni credited the fallen minister for having been a good soldier since time in memorial unto repelling the LRA rebels from the region , “ For Charles Engola to die at 64 when he was still energetic is not right… we need to get rid of all the weaknesses that led to his unnatural death… he was a sacrificial lamb because he died for the problems that were not his… bodyguards should not be the responsibility of the one guarded to feed them… and the army will educate soldier’s children from nursery to secondary for free” Museveni remarked.
Adding about the recent LGBTQ bill, President Museveni was categorical saying, “ homosexual think they can make us homosexuals because they think we need money from them, if you fear to sacrifice because you do not want to live the hard way, you become a prostitute” Parliament just sent back the amended bill to president to ascent and append his signature on it before it finds its way into the gazette and law.
Several dignitaries had condoled with the family including Hon, Sam Engola, Engola Samuel Junior the deceased son, First lady Hon Janet Museveni, Hon. Jim Muhwezi, Hon Hamson Obua Mp of Ajuri, IGP Ochola etc.
“ They said that Pvt Sabiti had been with the minister for hardly one month… there must be another reason why he killed the minister… we will wait for investigations and reports…the late was a fearless fighter committed to the NRM…” whereas the widow appreciated the sympathy shared to the family including the president. “… he died in cold blood but I know that it was a sacrificial blood as he stated, don’t lose hope” Minister Betty Amongi stated
The Minister shall be laid to rest later by the close of this week at his home in Oyam District.
