Pope Francis has finally been discharged from the hospital having been admitted for a couple of days during the week.
The Vatican head left Gemelli Hospital early today having been under close medical supervision for days.
He was rushed to the hospital with breathing difficulties and later diagnosed with bronchitis an infection of the main airways of the lungs (bronchi), causing them to become irritated and inflamed.
As he exited the hospital the Holysee threw a punchline that he is “still alive” as he left hospital in Rome after after days of close supervision.
“I wasn’t frightened, I’m still alive,” the 86-year-old Argentinian told reporters and tearful sympathisers outside the hospital before being driven 0ff as he headed to Vatican.
Official communication had said he was responding very well to antibiotics and would be discharged early on Saturday.
He was seen smiling and waving from the car, before getting out to speak to a crowd that had gathered outside.
His return to Vatican comes ahead of his busy Holy Week and Easter Schedules including a number of mass and meetings that is physically demanding a lot.
Matteo Bruni, a Vatican Spokesperon stated that the Pope was excepted to take part in this weekend’s service for Palm Sunday.
Pope Francis who marked 10 years as head of the Catholic Church earlier this month, has suffered a number of health issues throughout his life, including having part of one of his lungs removed at age 21 and seen several times publicly on wheelchair due to his knee related issues.
Earlier last year Vatican suffrered a blow with the demise of the former Pope, Benedict .
