About 8 supporters of Arsenal fans were on Monday morning arrested in the eastern part of Uganda.
This happened in Jinja city about 70 Km east of Uganda’s Capital Kampala. The happy Arsenal fans donned on the premier league club red jersey chanted their way out from bugembe into the city paralyzing business.
In a convoy of about 5 cars holding the Premier League replica trophy and chanting “Arsenal, wewe, Arsenal wewe” stormed the city unaware after the Sunday night 3:2 win over Manchester United and 5 points ahead of the immediate follower Manchester City.
The procession started gathering moth including boda boda riders from main street across Kuch road past the CPS and headed towards Jinja town hall. Police had to swing in action, intercepted and arrested most of them claiming they didn’t have a permit to hold such a procession which is a public order offence and a threat to business activities.(photo credit daily monitor)
Arsenal and Manchester United are long term football rivals with each claiming to be the might despite the former having any recent premier League trophy.
Later on, an Arsenal fan was heard claiming that most of those police officers are Man Utd supporters who just wanted to foil their celebration, an allegation that the top police officer of the region denied saying he himself is one strong Arsenal fan but would rather not celebrate in the streets to disorganize other people’s businesses.
Uganda is well known with majority of youth supporting the two premier league rival clubs Arsenal and Manchester United. There was celebrations across the country immediately after the final whistle was blown. Supporters were seen running and shouting in celebrations all over Mbarara, the Western city untill far north in the dusty streets of Alebtong town.
Arsenal now has minimal obstructions oh its way to bagging the trophy this season having played 19 matches already.
