Uganda recorded its first loss at the ongoing CHAN tournament happening in Algeria.
Uganda earnestly needed at least a draw to progress to the next stage where as Ivory Coast needed at least a win to progress to the next level.
The game played at Nelson Mandela Stadium ended 3:1 in favor of Didier Drogba’s home country with a lone penalty by Moses Waisswa on the 34th Minute.
Uganda kept on pressing so hard with several occasions coming close to equalize but Patrick Outro and Aubin Kramo had already placed the opponents far ahead on the 27th and later 78th minute.
Placed in a group with Africa’s Number 1, Senegal, Ivory Coast and DR Congo. Micho’s team put up a perfect display drawing goalless with Congo and beating Senegal 1:0 before finally losing to Ivory Coast 3:1 on a Sunday night match.
Senegal beat DRC 3:0 to go top of the table with 6 points as Ivory Coast and Uganda all settled on 4 points with goal difference separating the two. Congo left with 2 points.
Uganda experienced good display starting from the goal keeper Nafian Alionzi shielded by Begisa, Fred Gift, Nahiro & Wasswa in the back. Semakula, Watambala, Karisa, Waiswa , Mato & Sebufu all startedup against Ivory Coast.
The team put-up a spirited fight during this tournament which has left many soccer lovers happy and hopeful for the future of the national team. Well done lads.
