Hon Robert Kyagulanyi’s People Power wave seems not to cease especially among the young people of Uganda. Could this shape the future of national politics? That answer is Yes, according to the Former Guild president of Makerere University Business School MUBS in an interview with the Campusa Magazine. His opinion neither deferred to that of Ms Shamoodha Nalwaaga, A UYD Guild Candidate in the recent University’s Guild race during a separate interview with the Campusa Magazine. Both concurred that University politics to a Greater extent shapes national politics citing examples of several former Guild Presidents who are now strong politicians such as Hon Nobert Mao, the Current Minister for Justice, and constitutional Affairs.
Relatedly National Unity Platform’s flag bearer Bruno Kamoga beat up his two rival contestants Shamoodah from Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) and Brian an independent candidate to clinch top notched Guild’s office, breaking the statistical and historical favor over the years.
Shamoodha narrowly missed being the 2nd Female MUBS’ Guild by a whisker, she wasn’t hesitant to Congratulate Kamoga upon his victory and assured her voters coordinate and work along with the president elect. The Campusa had a glance on her official statement as she conceded defeat,
“ I want to first thank my campaign team on my own behalf and Kinene’s Thanks for all the hours of work… the school, as you know is at critical point At a time like this, we can’t risk partisan bickering and political posturing. Kamoga is going to be our president and we owe him an open mind and a chance to lead us…” the humorous young politician stated.
On the other hand, Bruno Kamoga appreciated her competitors as well as students who braved the hot sun to go vote and write history together.
Of late we have seen several NUP’S University candidates wining majority of their Campus elections including Gulu University. Makerere has suspended its election after a student lost his life after being stabbed ahead of the Guild Elections that had intensified between Forum For Democratic Change & NUP Candidates.
Meanwhile, according to eyewitnesses, MUBS’ election was generally peaceful and transparent just as years ago.
It is an exceptional time over years that UYD is losing election in this Nakawa Based institution with previous several UYD Candidates grabbing the spot such as Don Patrick Bujingo, Emmanuel Awori, Julius Ntende, Robinsong Ogwang, Edward Kiyega amongst others with exceptional Guild presidents arising from other political parties FDC’s Jojo & Romulous.
Could this be a national wave shaping future politics of the Country? We throw this question to you for feedbacks on our social media handles at the Campusa Magazine
