As the NRM under the stewardship of President Yoweri Kaguta T. Museveni and the party’s MPs locked heads in Kololo Ceremonial Ground for a Caucus conference to discuss way out on what seemed to be the most scam coffee deal, Opposition Mps were as well sweating ideas out and making strategies ahead of Omoro Constituency MP position that fell vacant after the demise of the former MP Jacob Oulanyah.
By end of the day former Omoro MP Mr Simon Akecha was the final man standing to be fronted by Uganda’s current leading opposition National Unity Platform.
NUP’s president Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi acknowledged a hard decision had to be made between stiff individuals who had shown interest to pick party card to vie for the same. “It has been a tough race and hard choices to make for us to come up with Mr Simon Toolit Akecha. We embrace unity and we know that the processes we have used will deliver us victory in Omoro County,” Kyagulanyi told press in Kamwokya yesterday.
Mr Akecha represented Omoro County in Parliament from 2006 to 2010 on the blue ticket however lost to Oulanyah in 2010 in a hotly contested election. He did not return for the 2021 General Election claiming insufficient funds to run his campaigns however he insists he much more prepared to face off with Jacob Oulanya’s son who is being fronted by the ruling National Resistance Movement.
“This is not the first time I am leading the area and I know what it is all about when it comes to leadership. The people know what they want and they will speak,” Mr Akecha stated. His selection of Mr Toolit brings to eight the total number of candidates who have expressed interest in the Omoro seat. The others are Mr Denis Dick Owani (FDC), and Mr Terrence Odonga, Mr Andrew Olal, Mr Francis Rwotlonyo, Mr Douglas Peter Okello, all from NRM. Others are Mr Godwin Okello (Ind), Julius Okello Opira (ANT), and Hillary Olweny (Ind).
