What started as an illegitimate rumour early on Sunday afternoon about the death of Iran’s president on a plane crash has now culminated into reality with the state media stating that there seems to be no survivor of the crash. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi lost his life on Sunday, along with a couple of crew members including the country’s foreign minister, in a helicopter crash in Iran’s remote northwest, injecting fresh uncertainty as the country’s hardline clerical establishment navigates rising regional tensions and domestic discontent in what the campusa magazine has witnessed some fireworks display in part of the country in: celebration” mostly from the opposition stronghold regions.
This uncertain loss of two of Iran’s most influential political figures comes as the country buckles under significant economic and political and social tensions amidst political rivalry with Israel.
Last year President Museveni hosted President Ebrahim Raisi in Uganda and held significant bi-lateral discussions between the two states.
Drone footage of the helicopter wreckage taken by the Red Crescent and carried on Iranian state media showed the crash site on a steep, wooded hillside, with little remaining of the helicopter beyond a blue and white tail.
Sunday’s crash occurred as Raisi, 63, and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian were returning from a ceremony for an opening of a dam on Iran’s border with Azerbaijan, state media reported previously.
Several countries have shown sympathy with Iran and promising technical support to the crash site that is located in the wooden mountainous region of the country.
