Kenyan top opposition leader Raila Odinga wants to run for the chairmanship of African Union (AU)
Odinga claims owing to his tenure as the African union’s special envoy for infrastructure development in Africa from for the last 7 years has made him a fit candidate to scoop AU’s top position since he best understands the socio-economic conditions across the African continent.
Raila Odinga is 79 years old, a born of 1945 and has contested several times for Kenyans presidential position but has since failed except for being the Prime Minister of the East African country.
Addressing the media today Thursday 15th February 2024, Odinga said that the leadership of Africa wants his service, and he is ready to offer himself as the top person in African Union.
He further shared his discontentment over the prevailing or the current state of poverty in Africa and most specifically in sub-Saharan Africa and East Africa saying that the continent is poor yet it is very rich in resources that are being exploited by foreign powers. He noted this as a brain drain not only for Kenyans but for the entire African continent.
The famous Kenyan opposition stated that himself as a pan Africanist, he strongly believes that Africa is playing in the league that it should not play in, for instance if it was Ugandan football , Africa would really be playing in big league yet it is supposed to play in startimes Uganda Premier League.
Raila Amolo Odinga born in 1945 who is the current Kenyan politician and a former Prime Minister between 2008 to 2023 was also a member of parliament for langata constituency from 1992 to 2013. He lost in the recent Kenyan general election after being beaten by his counterpart William Ruto before resorting to uncoordinated Nairobi strikes.
African Union is a united force of African countries with a framework of delivering African goal for inclusive sustainable development consisting of 55 member states with headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia but rather founded in 2002 in South Africa.
