The UAE- Trade Mission East Africa 2023 which is a two day Economic Trade Forum kick-started today 8th November and closing with a dinner on 9th at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel. The trade mission which was organised by Private Sector Foundation Uganda, Uganda Investment Authority, Ministry of Trade and the UAE Trade delegations, Sharjah Exports Development Center aims at boosting Trade relations between the two nations. Since it’s enactment in 2021, both partners have registered tremendous increase in exports with Uganda’s exports increasing from $126m to $880m from 2021 to 2023, focusing on gold, coffee and fish and imports such as Petroleum, plastics and cement from UAE.
The Guest Speaker H.E Jessica Alupo and Uganda Exports Promotion Board, Executive Director Mr. Elly Twineyo and Minister for Trade, industry and Corporation Hon. Francis Mwebesa urged Sharjah Exports Development Center and UAE to increase Uganda’s exports to improve on the Gross Domestic Product and promote growth and development. The Vice President highlighted a boost to tourism, ICT company partnership and research especially on vaccines, Industrialisation and global warming.
