There was uproar from Arsenal stand yesterday when VAR made yet another controversial decision to allow Newcastle Goal against the Gunners. Anthony Gordon’s winning goal was allowed whereas most sports analysts disagreed with the decision.
VAR awarded the goal after three separate checks to see if the ball had gone out of play.
From different camera angles, the ball crossed the touchline before it was crossed back into the Arsenal box. This later culminated to Arsenal’s defeat at St James Park.
Mikel Arteta was arguably furious during and after the match, blaming the decision as a disgrace, embarrassing and unacceptable in a top league competition.
“It’s embarrassing what happened, incredible… If there was a team looking to win the game today it was Arsenal. Nothing else to say about that, please”. He stated after the match.
“For many reasons it’s not a goal — for more than one reason at least it’s not a goal. And there’s too much at stake here, we put in so much effort, and it’s so difficult to compete at this level… It’s an absolute disgrace. Again, I feel embarrassed — I’ve be more than 20 years in this country, and this is nowhere near the level to describe this as the best league in the world. I am sorry… How this goal stands, in the Premier League… this league we say is the best in the world. I have been in this country 20 years and now I feel ashamed”. The furious manager concluded.
The defeat leaves Arsenal with 24 points and 2 points below Tottenham who have played one more game than Arsenal.
