Yesterday, hundreds of Batooro (people of Tooro) and kingdom associates and friends attended the 28th coronation celebration of the Omukama (king) of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
The 31-year old king was coronated at a tender age of three making him the youngest reigning King in the world.
In his address, he reaffirmed his dedication to implementing the kingdom’s vision of the 25-year development of his subjects which includes promoting and protecting the Tooro culture and heritage, skills development for youth, agricultural investment, tourism promotion, environment and water conservation and ending HIV/Aids among others.
King Oyo encouraged his subjects to increase their productivity through embracing the King Oyo Model Farm in order to increase income levels. These farms comprises livestock, diary, Fisheries banana plantations e.t.c.
Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa who represented the central government commended King Oyo for preserving the traditional values of the Batooro.
He added that nature must be preserved expressing his support for the Kingdom.
Also encouraged the locals to desist land fragmentation, selling land in smaller pieces instead utilise the available land as a whole within the family to avoid entering financial difficulties.
Distinguished people, dignitaries and Ugandans took to social media wishing King Oyo a happy 28th celebrations with many insisting culture must be preserved.
