Uganda national basketball team, the Gazelles was outpowered by the Kagame’s girls 66: 61 at the ongoing Afrobasket women championship in Kigali last night in what many described as the “Battle of the East.”
In a technically 4 quartered contested game, Rwanda that not only happen to be the youngest team in the tournament but rather a host team, couldn’t bow down to Uganda’s Gazelles even despite the latter beating the 11th time champions Senegal previously.
With that win over Uganda, Rwanda writes history of reaching semi finals for the first time in history.
Earlier on Nigeria progressed to semi finals following their decisive 59:52 win over Mozambique; this means the Gazelles will now face-off with Mozambique today for classifications positions.
Meanwhile back home, yesterday St. Noah Girls’ School received a heroic welcome at Uganda’s national airport Entebbe. The girls are back from Morocco where they participated in the just concluded World Schools’ Championship. The Zana based school bagged bronze medals at the tournament after thumping Germany 2:0 in a third place play off.
