Police in Mukono have registered a case of mass food poison in one of the schools within it’s territory. According to police, this unfortunate incident happened on Thursday 20, July at Nakanyonyi Secondary School.
By the time this sad news circulated yesterday, several parents flocked the school gate in demand to evacuate their children out of school so that they seek further specialized medical treatment for their children, however the head teacher assured them that the situation was under control without any death case registered, he further stated that the hospitalized students were being well managed and steadily improving.
Subsequently the school has been temporarily closed to allow police to investigate further on the matter. This decision was reached at by Mr. Sali Gerald, the District Education Inspector of Mukono.
Kampala Metropolitan police deputy spokesperson Mr. Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed that the samples of the food have been taken to the government analytical laboratory as the investigations are underway to determine the type of chemical and establish the motive of responsible suspects.
Previously in October last year,5 students of Koch Goma in Nwoya District were admitted to St. Mary’s hospital Labor in Gulu over suspected food poisoning whereas another incident occured at Kings Kid Nursery and Primary School in Soroti district where children were rushed to the hospital over the suspected food poisoning.
This incident casts shadow on the Ministry of Education claim that students are safe, a tatement made after over 40 students lost their lives to suspected ADF Rebel attack in Lubirihia SS Kasese about a month ago.
