Kizza Besigye speaks out on patronage and commercialisation of politics. While addressing the press concerning Forum for Democratic Change wrangles a political party he founded, Kizza Besigye pointed out that commercialisation of politics is eating up political parties not only FDC, the notion that you can’t be elected because of limited resources has given grounds to politicians/leaders to compromise.
Political parties have failed to adjust to confront the problems of State capture. He added that participation in politics is commercialised hence those capable to lead are not financially capable to participate in elections.
Party chairman Patrick Amuriat Oboi reacted to the allegations by a faction of members led by Spokeperson Hon. Ssemujju Nganda regarding unaccountable unknown source of billions of shillings penetration into the party during the 2021 elections, calling it a political strategy a head of the coming internal elections on 28th July 2023. The chairman claims that the billions of shillings were contributions from FDC well wishers, alliances and loans which can’t be disclosed to protect the interests of the people. He also disclosed plans of voilence in the coming party elections by the Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago which is yet to be clarified.
Nandala Mafabi who is the Secretary General of the party says the divided factions are selfish individuals/members who don’t wish the party well citing that the allegations and statements are to damage the party reputation built over the years. Mafabi says he is not interested in working with President Museveni rubbishing claims that he was offered the position of governor of Bank of Uganda in exchange of handing FDC to Museveni.
