Kiira College Butiki suffered a 2:1 loss to ST. Mary’s College Kisubi in FUFA TV Cup initial tournament final at Muteesa ii Royal Stadium Wankulukuku in the battle of Colleges. The 8 teams’ tournament started a couple of months ago with teams such as Mengo S.S, Busoga College Mwiri, Jinja College, Namilyango, Kiira College Butiki, ST. Mary’s College Kisubi, Kings College Budo & Makerere Colllege.
Butiki who had scored a total 12 goals in the entire tournament to be the scoring team of the tournament put up a stiff display against the opponent throughout the 89 minutes before a slight defensive error paving way for Mwessigwa Griffin to put one past Kiira College goal keeper Mutabazi Kenneth.
SMACK’S goalkeeper Darren Aine exhibited a great display althrough the tournament having conceded only two goals. He stopped several shots from Butiki’s forwarders such as Mukulu Reagan, Earnest Olukol untill when the tournament’s top scorer Gift Mutalya exceptionally put one past him on the 38th minute. Butiki’s celebration was however short lived by Ambayo’s equalizer three minutes later to put the game back to its starting scoreline.
Dignitaries in attendance included former Uganda Crane playmakers Hassan Wasswa & Tony Mawejje, KCB HM, Ronnie Kalema the FUFA Executive Committe member, FUFA CEO Edger Watson, FUFA TV Cup orgaining committee chairman Dr. Ahimbisibwe Apollo, etc.
The award of the Most Valuable Player went to Ernest Olukor (Butiki), top scorer with 8 goals was Mutalya Gift Fred(Butiki), Golden Glover winner Aine Darren (SMACK), Butiki as runners up bagged a 2million cheque where as the winners took 3million. (photo credit @FUFA TV Cup).
FUFA TV Cup is one of the many tournament organized by the national football governing body as a way of identifying young talents and nature them into future national team players. Others includes the FUFA Drum, Uganda’s top flight Startimes Uganda Premier League, FUFA Big League, FUFA Women Elite League etc.
