Lately DNA testing increased as several men are subjecting children to the test to ascertain their paternity. This comes days after government carried out DNA testing on some of murdered students during the Kasese attack where some results didn’t match. Tests have since raised questions concerning declining moral values.
Yesterday Parliament through Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa directed government especially Ministry of Health and Office of the Prime Minister to come up with regulatory framework regarding DNA testing. He called out PM Nabanjja to look into it claiming innocent children have become victims. In response the PM promised the House to bring a statement regarding the same in the next sitting on Tuesday.
Mr. Mudenyi added that the need for the service has increased by 70% however there are unregulated facilities offering mediocre services that makes the situation worse as fake results are causing family feuds with high levels of insecurity in families.
Other legislators however argued that Paternity clarity is a right to all Ugandans.
Our reporter interacted with few citizens to find out their stance on whether the government should regulate this issue and here are the feedback
“I am happy for it. They should not stop it. Hope now men are feeling the pain women have been going through all those previous years, men used to produce outside their marriage, and they thought it’s okay, now it’s their time to suffer, let them cry until they learn that what they shouldn’t like to be done to them, shouldn’t be done to anybody. Hope they are now realizing that women also used to get hurt when they were producing outside in different women. I support DNA and it shouldn’t be removed.” Says Shan an Accountant.
Doctor Jerome says “There should be no restrictions at all because boy child has suffered for too long in silenced, they should just authenticate the labaratories to avoid manipulation of de results”
“Am not happy with the government restricting the DNA coz the moment a lady realizes that you are preparing with her and the children for DNA test and may be she faulted somewhere, trust me it will not end well so to avoid all those inconveniences it’s better to do it secretly” Ancalete suggested
“ I tell you what. If there is any reasonable doubt, Yes I would go for a DNA.
You guy Curiosity is a very strong thing. I cannot bare the anxiety. I will need to know for sure. Whether I would keep the child or not is a different question.” One writer depicts
