NRM’s Samuel Junior Engola Okello, UPC’s Dr. Eunice Apio Otuko, FDC’s Freddy Newton and NUP’s Daniel Okello are in a tight race to replace slain Minister of State for Labour Hon. Charles Engola.
A coincidence that all contenders are “Okello’ to replace the late Okello except for the UPC Dr Apio!
President Museveni yesterday 4th July camped in Oyam and campaigned massively for the NRM Candidate urging voters to give him a chance to serve them. The army and police have already stationed themselves to avoid by- election insecurity from recurring on Thursday as voters cast their ballot.
NUP’s President Hon. Robert Ssentamu called upon the locals to deviate from accepting 5000-shilling bribe and instead focus on change of leadership, as well as encouraged them to be vigilant on ballot stuffing and other election malpractices, where as UPC’s Jimmy Akena is hopeful his candidate will win to bring back the party’s lost glory in the region.
It’s on record that candidates from the deceased family usually emerge victoriously in by-elections possibly from sympathies from the communities however let’s see what Thursday 7th July election will bring.
