Ugandans cautioned to be vigilant regarding internal security after United Kingdom issued a terror attack alert in the Country. Though the UK statements doesn’t provide detailed security threat, the Minister for International Relations Hon. Henry Okello Oryem, Police Spokeperson Fred Enanga confirmed the terror threat in a press release on security of the nation.
Uganda Police Force in the past took initiative to warn citizens on precautionary measures such as vigilance in crowded areas like shopping malls, concerts, bars and restaurants etc. This comes from recent terror attacks that left hundreds dead and several wounded. The recent being the 17th June 2023 Kasese attack specifically in Mpondwe a region bordering DRC where 44 students were murdered, some injured and others kidnapped.

In November 2021, terrorists used two explosive device in Central Kampala, killing 4 injuring 33 people. These terror attacks according to Uganda Police Force, Internal Security Operations are linked to Allied Democratic Force (ADF) in retaliation to heavy deployment of UPDF in DRC and Somalia.
The terror alert issued by the UK isn’t indiscriminate as details weren’t provide however this is stipulated to affect the tourism sector which government intends to revive and expand.
