Holiness is being separated for God. Full devotion and dedication to God; it comes with purity of mind and integrity before God. It’s a demand from God; Leviticus 19:2, 1 Peter 1:15-16, God requires man to be Holy. There’s no way man can maneuver around Holiness.
Something fake is impure, a sham or a look-alike.
Fake Holiness therefore is counterfeit, mirror of holiness; we try to portray but really not. It falls short of the standard and quality of God and of that which is desired. It’s corrupted version of what true Holiness entails.
Where does fake holiness begin?
1-From the heart (Gen 6:5-7; Matthew 15: 18-22 and Mark 7: 21-22)
in Gen 6:5-7; Every imagination and thought of man was continually evil in the sight of God. This evil in the heart makes it difficult to connect with God. The Evil in our hearts pushes us away from the realm of God. It pushed Lucifer/Satan and men of old from the presence of God, we must care that it doesnt push us from the realm of God. Hence we owe to examine our hearts always because outwards we appear deserving of God (holy) yet the heart is tainted with evil.
It’s from our hearts that we either connect to the realm of the spirit of God or the evil one. Connecting with God means accessing His realms e.g in Holy Ghost tongue; but when one connects to the evil realm, they end up speaking forth fake tongues, fake revelations, fake dreams and prophecies.
Therefore it’s our responsibility to ensure that whatever is in our hearts connects with the realm of God. Many times we have unacceptable words from our mouth, but like King David Psalms 19:14; we must connect the words of our mouth and meditation of our hearts to the spiritual realm of God, our words and meditation must be acceptable to God.
2-When the I(ego in us) begins to question the authority of God, assumes a position bigger than God just like it happened to Lucifer in Isaiah 14:13-14, this pushed satan from the presence of God.
Different ways fake Holiness is expressed:
In our obedience to the word of God; Deut 29:18-19: Psalms 78:37 (Their hearts were not right or sincere with Him, neither were they faithful and steadfast to His covenant: (AMP )
most times believers obey God when it’s convenient, not as we are called to, when is in line with what we desire, sometimes we obey because we want to be seen as holy people by those around us or because we are expecting something from God. Hypocrisy in the body of Christ is fake Holiness. Our obedience can be fake obedience; therefore we must look at why we obey God. Is it genuine or fake?
In our focus to God; how do we walk with Focus on God? Do we focus when in need…? Where is our focus? Most times we talk about material possessions and less of God.
In our service to God; hypocritical service. Are we giving lips, eyes services? Do we serve because we want to be seen by those in authorities or wholeheartedly with diligence and obedience? What is that which drives you to serve God? 2 Kings 5:19-25
In our tithes, offerings and sacrifice; are we genuinely giving to God? Most times, some believers give offertory with unclean hearts and selfish expectations which renders their offertory not worthy. Many times we promise to give back to God after a blessing but we testify without offerings. Sometimes we genuinely extend support to families and friends but our help is criticized and rubbished as not worthy.
Examples Ananias and sapphire in Acts 5:1-4;; They gave their sacrifices in hypocrisy and received the instant judgment of God.
In our relationship with God and with man (Lev 19:11-18; Prov 6:14; 1 Corinth 11: 28)
In our fear of God– in our daily routine for instance business, office or family, we must decide not to do certain things for the fear of God. We must become broken in order to fear God despite the hard times. We shouldn’t bow to the things of the world but only before God. David had several opportunities to kill King Saul but he refrained because of He feared God (1 sam 26:7-10)
Hypocritical lifestyle/relationships- Mark 7: 21-22 some believers gossip about the same people they relate with daily yet they smile with them.
Think about your life, how do you relate with God and his people?
