Fare Thee Well The Singing General Tumwiine. The nation is once again in grief, shock and sorrow upon the demise of one of the NRM Bush War Heros, General Elly Tumwiine.
The outspoken General is said to have breathed his last and died from Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, where he was airlifted last week battling cancer related complications. President Museveni later confirmed on his official twitter handle.
Gen E. Tumwiine
Last week there was wide spread speculations on social media that the one eyed bush war general had passed on, an allegation that the family came out and cleared it as fake news. Few days later, the sad news now comes .
Tumwine is one of the 42 people armed with 27 guns who attacked Kabamba barracks to launch the NRA protracted war that five years later in 1986 that opened the gate of NRM government to power up to date.
The fallen soldier and his bush war veterans have always credited himself for having fired the first bullet that lunched the five year guerilla war of the National Resistance Army. He is also well known for being so patriotic enough and composed several songs praising the beauty of Uganda and NRM such as “Ainunu”
He found favor by many NRM ideology supporters except for few instances that he made public remarks that slightly derailed his personal image especially among the oppositions especially when he publicly stated that security had the rights to shoot and kill civilians after the November riot that saw many people killed by security personnel including food vendors, this almost got him censored in the parliament.
He has been eugolized by many as a staunch patriotic Ugandan with deep root to christianity. In one of his press briefing he acknowledged that everyone is a sinner that needs to repent.
Many public figures have come out to condole with the family and the nation at large including the NUP President Hon Robert Kyagulanyi, Gen Tumukunde, a former Bush war army, Emmanuel Dombo a reknwon NRM ideologist among others.
However his death was received with mix reactions amongst Ugandans with most oppositions pointing finger at him basing on his recent reckless public statements.
Fare thee well the singing general.
