Just like the rest of the World, different types of crimes are on the rise. Uganda in particular is battling what could be termed as crimes in relation to Increasing Cost of living. Though individual characters plays biggest role, we can’t Ignore the fact that poverty has created depression and hopelessness among many.
These escalating night crimes is not different from the rest, however some are linked to frustrated individuals looking for survival means. For decades the country has been battling poverty with areas of Acholi, Busoga, Teso and Karamoja experiencing the worst. Recently hearts were broken as several perished in Karamoja famine crisis.
What the country is witnessing is not only a factor created by the Russia-Ukraine war that saw increased fuel prices but an increasing, neglected issues that accumulated for decades. The cost of living has been steadily increasing. What Uganda needs is favourable laws and interventions which can improve livelihoods in the long run. Should we pin our hopes in the Parish Development Model? Well, much still has to be done.7
Be vigilant and on guard because an hungry man is an angry man. A great percentage of youth are unemployed, depressed and hopeless. Where one has nothing to lose, robbery becomes their unfortunate solution to feed themselves and their families.
