Renown jailed lawyer, Mr Hassan Male Mabirizi, has pleaded to the Court of Appeal to have him released pending the hearing of his appeal challenging the 18 months jail term in Kitalya Prison. His flamboyant lawyer Isaac Semakadde on Tuesday asked the Court through Justice Christopher Madrama to freeze Mabirizi’s 18-months sentence at the maximum prison, however his pleas was all in vain.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyre, Mabirizi was arrested on Monday as he tried entering Banda based University Kyambogo and whisked away shortly to police before being received in Kitalya Prison later. His nabbing followed last week’s directive by High Court Judge, Musa Ssekaana, after finding him guilty of contempt of Court for the second time after he challenged the decision.
However, before the Appeal Court could hear Mabirizi’s application to stay execution of the lower court’s order, he was arrested and sent to Kitalya Prison, which he says was an unconstitutional move. Mixed concerns is arising from the entire public regarding his arrests across the political devise including the NUP Party flag bearer Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi who condemned the arrest through his twitter account, “… i have learnt of the arrest and detention of Mr. Male Mabirizi. He might have wronged some people but he’s entitled to due process of law. The judiciary and the Law enforcement agencies must uphold his rights and freedoms and accord him his right to a fair trial.”
In a related story Mabirizi’s Lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde was equally summoned to CID to record a statement that seems like that of his client, Offensive Communication. The mentally rich rasta-like former LDC student reappeared unto public limelight after appearing into one local television station grilling Kampala Central MP Hon. Nsereko flat & criticising him for being a Dimwit as they discussed the proposed bill to be tabled on Parliament for Communication.
The duos’ woes root back from social media posts they made about High Court Civil Division judge Musa Ssekaana. The Campusa has realized Male Mabirizi poses a rich history for challenging several high-profile individuals in Courts of Law without fear or favor. He once dragged the Kabaka of Buganda to Court in relation to the Land tenure system in the Kingdom.
The ambitious Lawyer earlier this year asked Ministry of Works & Transport to show him a certified copy of President Museveni’s Driving License, whereas in January 2022, High Court ordered him to pay a sum of Ugx 300million or be committed to prison for abusing a Judicial Officer.
Mabirizi once dragged President Museveni once again to the Civil Division of High Court for abandoning his new name TIBUHABURWA that he had earlier on sworn and adopted in 2022.
Relatedly former Kawempe MP yesterday but one narrowly escaped using the notorious “Drone”. Narrating his ordeal on a local television, Hon Munyagwa said he realized he was being trailed by a drone along the Northern Bypass. The unidentified “security agency” later caught-up with him towards Busega and tried forcing him into their moving torture chamber of which he over-powered them after several wallops on his back and leg before narrowly escaped with the help of Bodaboda cyclists who came to his aid.
