A student identified as Ssebuganda Richard yesterday lost his hand in an attempt to dispose off a tear gas canister which had been fired in his room which eventually exploded in the process. He is currently undergoing treatment. Details to follow.
The demonstration is as a result of the continuous phased opening of the institution which is against the full reopening of the economy as directed by the president. The students bodies argue that the Vice Chancellor Mr. Nawangwe has paid a deaf ear to the plight of the students but instead issued suspension letters to students demonstrating.
