Finally the most celebrated football tournament in the Continent came to an end with Senegal emerging winner beating Egypt in penalty kicks 4-3. Senegal has won the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time after 12 appearances. It was indeed long overdue.
Outstanding performances from Egypt’s Salah and Senegal’s Sadio Mane, though he missed the penalty that probably could have prevented the match extending to the extra time, He finished the game with a magnificent penalty in the penalty kicks.
The Africa Cup of Nations tournament which started on 9th January has ended on 6th February 2022 with other emerging winners, Egypt in second place, Cameroon in third and Burkina Faso in fourth place. The tournament was hosted in six great stadiums of Olembe,Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo, Japoma, Limber, Kouekong and Roumde Adjia in Cameroon with thousands of spectators from all over Africa.
Unlike 1957 where only three teams played, several expansions has been made till twenty four in 2019. Egypt so far scooped seven AFCON trophies making them one of the most winners of the AFCON.
Cameroon’s striker Vincent Aboubakar is the AFCON2021 top scorer with eight goals. The Al Nasser striker has been praised for how far he took his team.Well, hopefully he gets to play in the English Premiership that’s known for hunting the best.
It’s been 52 great games. Great football, unfortunately everything with a beginning has got to end.
