Sombre mood accompanied by darkness hovered over Kololo ceremonial ground this afternoon as President Museveni expressed his condolences to the family of Papa Augustine Osuban Lemukol, all Ugandans, Africans wish the Teso Emorimor eternal rest. This was during a requiem mass in preparation for his final burial later during the week. He however stated his dissatisfaction on his government for not allocating sufficient funds for cultural and heritage building. “There’s one thing I am not happy with; we are not funding the cultural institutions well. For instance, I would like a policy by the government where a cultural leader can be given a car, after five years, he gets another one. It should be an entitlement, not a donation from me” he said.
“The Emorimor came up with many well-intentioned development projects. I am here to say goodbye to him and acknowledge his proper use of leadership, which others can emulate” Museveni continued. Several Teso leaders have hailed the deceased Iteso cultural leader Emorimor Augustine Osuban Lemukol for restoring peace and unity in Teso. He is known for living a simple life with a lot of physiological wealth.
The Emorimor breathed his last on Saturday evening at Mulago National Referral Hospital where he had been admitted for almost a week. The Prime Minister of the Iteso Cultural Union confirmed the news adding that he had been admitted at the Intensive Care Unit before his demise. Among those who poured out their condolences includes Vice President H.E Alupo, Deputy Speaker Anita Among, Captain Mike Mukula, Musa Ecweru among others.
Several businesses of the Eastern Region of Teso are vividly on stand still as they await final send off on 19th February 2022. Among the disrupted activities includes the ongoing football fixtures of Ateker Cup which has been postponed until 20th February 2022 a day after the burial of the King with all games observing moments of silence and wearing black armbands as a sign of respect for the fallen hero. Until we meet again Papa!
