Lira Diocese Pilgrimage to Namugongo which include an 85 year old woman Imat Goretti and the entire Christian community in Lango are in shock after one of the registered foot pilgrims for this year’s Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations died after being stabbed by unknown assailants in Lira town.
Okello Ivan, 22 years and second year student at Abonyotingere Primary Teachers’ College in Lira would by today be among the 750 foot pilgrims now camped at Nyakitooma in Nakasongola district had he not missed taking-off together with the main group following a slight change in the time table last Thursday 17th May. His father Francis Judith Anyeko, also among the pilgrims who was given the shocking news this afternoon by Fr. Eyok Acek, explained the circumstance that led to the absence of his son among the rest of the pilgrims saying, they had initially thought that the take-off would be at midnight of the Thursday 17th May but not at 1:00am Thursday morning.
